Merry Christmas!
Wishing a very Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and a blessed New Year to all.
DD and BF are still tucked into bed. Hubby and I are listening to peaceful music and reading and writing. Later we'll open presents and eat brunch. This day for us is all about love and family and friends. This evening we'll have a potluck at our house with 3 very good friends.

ESSENTIAL OIL BLENDING FROM THE AROMATIC BLENDING INSTITUTE
Below I’ve made a simple chart you can print out and keep at your blending table for easy reference. These are the dilutions we use in the classroom at Aromatic Wisdom Institute.
When in doubt, use less.
Weight of Carrier 1% dilution 2% dilution 3% dilution
1 ounce 5-6 drops 10-12 drops 15-18 drops
2 ounce 10-12 drops 20-24 drops 30-36 drops
3 ounce 20-24 drops 30-36 drops 45-54 drops
1% Dilution: — This dilution is used for children under 12, and seniors over 65, pregnant women and people with long-term illnesses or immune systems disorders. A 1% dilution is also a good place to start with individuals who are generally sensitive to fragrances, chemicals or other environmental pollutants.
2% Dilution — This dilution is used on adults in good health for blends that support skin care, for natural perfumes, bath oils, and blends you use everyday or long-term.
3% Dilution — This dilution is used when creating a blend for an acute injury, pain relief or getting through a cold or flu.
Blends made at this dilution are used only for a week or two.

PERFUMERS AND THE FRAGRANCE INDUSTRY
Here's a video that gives a glimpse into the perfume industry and how perfumers make fragrances. It is a bit long so enjoy watching while sipping your tea or coffee.

MAKING FIRE CIDER
http://mountainroseblog.com/fire-cider/
I've made fire cider about 16+ years ago and then haven't made it again until I was reminded by the above blog. I did Rosemary Gladstar's 10 lesson herbal homestudy course back in 95' and 96' and that's when I was introduced to fire cider. The above link gives an excellent explanation on how to make this and even about it. Near the bottom of the page is a video you can watch of rosemary making the fire cider. Below is a picture of my jar of fire cider ingredients doing their thing.

Making Aprons
For the past 2 weeks I've been practicing making money aprons for myself to wear at the farmers market and craft fairs. The four I've made so far have turned out and now I feel I can try some other fabrics. I want to have them for the different seasons and special events. Of course, the main reason is that I am having fun making them.

BEER SOAPS
I've re-started making soaps with beer for all the liquid. So, craft beer soaps are now at the craft fairs. They have their own special labels and unryu paper wrapping. I find that the beer helps make luxurious lather. They are very fun to make and coming up with a complimentary scent for the type of beer is a fun challenge. Right now I've used Oatmeal Stout from Mendocino Brewing Co. and Shock Top's Belgian Wheat Ale. The stout has a chocolate & burnt coffee taste to me and so the soap is scented with a chocolate based scent. The wheat ale is scented with coriander and citrus, which is what it tastes like to me. I plan so many more types. Research and development is alot of fun.
